the cones competition, and 2014 goodbyes

It was another (mostly) sunny, yet windy, day at the Kentucky Horse Park for the final day of this year’s Kentucky Classic CDE.

Here are the Champion and Reserve results from today, in the order they happened …

Ky Classic Preliminary Pair Ponies Championship: Colten Parker, Champion, and Mary Phelps, Reserve Champion.

Ky Classic Preliminary Single Pony Championship: Keith Angstadt, Champion, and Muffy Seaton, Reserve Champion.

Ky Classic Preliminary Single Horse Championship: Nifty Hamilton, Champion, and Jason Stronk, Reserve Champion.

Ky Classic Preliminary Pair Horses Championship: Jose Hernandez, Champion, and Beverly Patrick, Reserve Champion.

During the lunch break, Colten Parker (below, right) was chosen from among the six junior competitors at this year’s event to receive the inaugural Helen H. Norton Memorial Challenge Trophy, presented by Marc Norton and his sister Sally Norton (center) …

The cones competition continued after brunch with the Advanced Single Horse class. As the only entry in the class, Sterling Graburn was the clear winner.

In the USEF National Pair Horse Championship, Misdee Wrigley Miller and Steve Wilson were Champion and Reserve Champion, respectively.

After the awards presentation for the National Pair Horse Championship, Misdee Wrigley Miller made a surprise presentation to Kate and Katie Whaley, thanking them for all their efforts in organizing the Kentucky Classic over the past several years.

Paul Maye was Champion, and Randy Cadwell was Reserve Champion, in the USEF National Single Pony Championship.

In the USEF National Pair Ponies Championship, Amy Cross was the Champion, and Jennifer Matheson was the Reserve Champion.

In the Ky Classic Intermediate Pair Ponies class, Boots Wright was Champion, and Doris Leacy was Reserve Champion.

The final group of competitors for the day were the Intermediate Single Horses. In this class, Scott Adcox was Champion, and Marcie Quist was Reserve Champion.

Congratulations to all these drivers! And thank you to everyone who competed — and all the volunteers, sponsors, and officials who made this year’s event possible.
